The Jimmie Davis State Park is located in north central Louisiana. This beautiful park is the gateway to Caney Lake, home of 8 of the state's top 10 bass catches. The lake covers about 5,000 acres set in a shoreline of hardwoods and pine. Call ahead @ 1-877-226-7652 and reserve a cabin for the night, or bring your camper or tent and stay in one of 73 campsites. There's a beach for sunbathing, hiking trails, and fishing piers. This is also a great place to water ski, so bring your boat.

Directions to the park from I-20 @ Monroe: Take Hwy 34 South to Chatham. Turn right on Hwy 4 West. Travel approximately 5 miles. Turn left on Lakeshore Drive, which leads to State Park Road on your right. There's a small fee of $2 per car to enter the park. For more park information, visit
www.crt.state.la.us/crt/parks/jimmiedavis/jimmiedavis.htm

Stop at the office and get a map of the park. Turn left on Boggy Creek Road. Turn right on Poule D'eau Circle. Park at the beach parking area (sign says "Drop Off ^ Bus Parking"). Exit vehicle and go NW (opposite the beach) to a sidewalk leading into the woods. Walk past the children's play area on your right, and follow the sidewalk past the #1 shelter to the trash can at the road. Turn right on the road, walk 100 paces. You'll see 8 picnic tables on your right. From the first picnic table on the right, stand at the front, south corner of the concrete pad. Walk 21 paces south toward a large sweet gum tree. On the other side of the tree is an old pine stump. Here you'll find your prize. Come back to the table and stamp in. Look toward the road in the direction you came in and you'll see a longleaf pine tree. Look underneath and you may be lucky enough to see giant pine cones.

Don't forget to carefully re-hide the letterbox back in the stump. The container will only fit with the end facing down back into the stump.
