You’re looking for the boathouse built for canoeing and kayaking events in the 1989 Summer Games. You want to start your search at the plaque commemorating the dedication by the Queen (hint: it’s in a park named after another Queen). Walk toward downtown, along the river. You can take either the high road (paved path) or the low road (bank of the river, more fun). Walk until you come to two purple chokecherry trees about 12 feet apart in the foliage. If you’re on the high road, you’ll have passed by two bench areas; if you’re on the low road, you’ll have passed by the culvert. A few feet below the second chokecherry tree is a big flat grey rock. The letterbox is hidden under it. Please replace it and hide it well with rocks or vegetation. If you’re doing this hunt when the trees have no leaves and the chokecherries are hard to spot (or before June when their leaves are green rather than dark maroon), you’ll need to rely on clues on the low path: the letterbox is perhaps 50 feet past the culvert and you’ll see the big flat grey rock just to the left of the path. Note: this is probably a 3-season letterbox, as I suspect you’ll never be able to find it in snow.
