CURRENTLY MISSING 4/2006
Directions: Park near the big red barn either off of Mickleberry Road in Silverdale near Bucklin Hill Road in a business parking area or in the Safeway/Staples parking area and look for the Trail head brown sign off of Bucklin Hill.

This letterbox was inspired by the recent caterpillar infestation in the Western Washington area. My children loved all the caterpillars (at first) and wanted to create a story about one on one of our favorite trails in the area.
Once upon a time, there was a caterpillar who had lots of friends and he lived on the Clear Creek Trail. But one day while he was eating lunch, his friends left him. So, he decided he must set out in search of them. He left his home near the big red barn on the Clear Creek Trail. If you park at the Staples off of Bucklin Hill in the Safeway parking area in Silverdale, you can follow his path. There are many different ways to experience the Clear Creek Trail, we chose to depart from the barn. There is also a trailhead to the west of the Barn and they meet up. This is the longer way to the letterbox. You can also start out from behind Allstar lanes, which is a much shorter route to the letterbox. If you go this way, go to the small bridge and follow the instructions below.
Anyway, he left the big red barn and traveled over the boardwalks toward Ridgetop Blvd. He got thirsty so after he crossed Ridgetop Blvd he stopped at the Java Joint for a quick drink. He followed Levin Road to the trail and saw really wonderful wood carvings as he went. He continued and crossed the bridge and took the trail to the right at the end of the bridge (or you can follow the gravel trail before the bridge.) Both of the trails end up at Mickleberry Road and Mhyre. He crossed Mhyre road at the crosswalk (and thought about stopping for another drink at the Allstar Espresso), but he kept going. Of course you can get a drink if you didn't get one the first time. He entered the trail again behind the pinkish building and took a long look at the big cedar stump. He loved the feel of the boardwalk as he crawled along. But he didn't see any other caterpillars. At the T he decided to go left towards a small bridge over the creek. He was so tired at this point that he decided to make his home under the bridge on the right side. This is where you'll find him today and the letterbox. After enjoying a good game of billy goat's gruff you can continue over the bridge and on the trail over a short distance to the parking lot behind All Star Lanes or to the right towards Silverdale Way. This way leads to another mile plus trail around a nature area on a wider bike/person path and then another gravel loop near the Skate park. Or you can turn around and go up the hill towards the trailhead at the Silverdale Harrison Hospital. All are nice trips and distances are posted frequently. Enjoy. You may want to bring an ink pad or felt pens that you can use on a large stamp (the caterpillar is a bit long).
