Directions to the trailhead:
Drive out of Columbia Falls on Highway 2 heading east, drive for a couple of miles and you will pass The House of Mystery and go around a big curve in the road. After the curve on the right side of the road you will see a small brown sign that reads historic point 1/2 mile. After you pass the sign turn to the right on a dirt road. Go down this road a short way and you will see the parking lot off the road to the left. The trailhead is on the east side of the parking lot.
To find this letterbox start down the trail and find the information sign. Stand with your back to the sign and look directly north across the trail. There you will see a decaying log next to the trail. Go over and look between the two pieces of the log, more under the left piece and you'll find the letterbox hidden under some old bark and stuff.
To find the second box you will need to continue up the trail a little ways. You'll walk up and around a rock wall then continue just a short way up the trail to find a small waterfall. You'll hear it before you see it. When you come to the spot where the water is running down the rocks and across the trail you are in the right spot to start searching.
Go past the waterfall and across the water on the trail, depending on the time of year you may get your feet wet. Keep walking and watch on the right side of the trail for a large pine tree that is leaning and pointing up the trail.
Carefully step off the trail like you were going to walk under the tree, but before you reach the tree turn around and face the trail.
Now look to your right and there is a pile of large rocks near your feet. The letterbox is hidden in a crack facing you.
Now that you have found both boxes you can turn around or continue to enjoy the trail.
