Moderate to Difficult.

Terrain slippery when wet.

This park charges $3 at gate. Trail length is 1 1/2 miles to historic battlefield. You will have to climb back out, unless you park accordingly.

Soldier's Hat:
Starting at Lookout Mountain's Point Park, you'll soon be in "Battle Above the Clouds". Find your way past the cannons, always staying on the trails, to the largest central monument up top. Go to general trail and locate the 98 steps down past Ochs to Map and Bluff Trail. You want to find your way to the last house standing. As you go down technically improved descenders, keep your eyes open for loose terrain. You will enjoy much scenery and bottomdwelling before finding the first box. Pass the well and overhangs. Did you trip over that manhole cover? You think confederate soldiers hid there? Unlikely but you're on right track. Adjacent to native cave are 9 steps together that you must pass. Approx 130 paces you trip on a rock. Keep going. At 190 paces you'll see more steps 22 more and you'll find a 3 fingered tree to your right. This part of trail is cleaved between massive boulders. The boulders are neatly kept in rank by a massive deciduous. If you continue around the bend and nearly stumble into wedge-shaped boulder, you've gone too far! It's up you seek. Stand directly in front of the 3 fingered tree again and now look back. Think 3. The lichen will show the way. You must search high then look low for a pile of tree debris and rocks will show.

Now, continue down trail to find #2.
