Hike difficulty is EASY (about 1/2 mile from trailhead to boxes) and clues are EASY.

Big Dry Creek spans almost 10 miles, from Standley Lake in the west to the eastern border of Westminster. It is a great place to bike (well groomed trails that are wide enough for kiddie trailers to pass) or to take an easy hike. It is the home to several different types of wildlife. It is a nesting area for bald eagles and for other raptors, so be sure to stay on the trail so you don’t disturb them. Part of it was also once an archaeological dig site, where Native American artifacts were found.

In order to prevent breakdown of vegetation the boxes have been placed out of site but close to the trails in HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS. Please be sure that others are not around when you know you are closing in on the boxes.

Park at the entrance to the Big Dry Creek Open Space that is at the NW end of the Westminster Public Library Parking Lot (112th, east of Sheridan). Go east down the main gray trail and your arrival will soon be announced by “barking” critters. Be respectful of their town and watch out for holes.

At the first fork, bear left down a slope. The trail will pass between 2 green Open Space signs. Keep bearing left and cross the bridge. Circle around the west side of the pond and keep your eyes peeled for ducks, herons, dogs and fisherman. Continue around towards the north side of the pond and cross a wooden footbridge.

At the next fork, go east toward a small grove of trees (and welcome shade in summer)and join a paved path.

The first box is at the base of 5 merging Russian olive tree trunks (one broke off since we placed the box, so it could only be 4 by your arrival). When no one is looking, duck under the easternmost limbs, on a false path and double around to search at the base of the merging trunks.

NEW LOCATION for 2nd box, since we lost 2 boxes from the original location:

Continue down the paved path, over the dam and past the bench that will be on your left. Go SE down the hill (away from Sheridan crossing and the newly built houses). You will pass more signage about the eco system of the open space. At the bottom of the hill you will come to another bridge and a manmade waterfall. At the end of the bridge rail(south end), stop at the end post. Turn right on a small path and go 6 paces (adult female paces). The 2nd LB is hidden in the base of a large downed log. PLEASE rehide carefully, obscured by bark, sticks, or whatever is available. WE DON"T WANT TO LOSE ANOTHER BOX IN THIS HIGH TRAFFIC AREA.

Each box should have a hand carved stamp and an inkpad.
