When MSU was called Michigan Agricultural College, students were called Aggies. In 1925, the college changed it's name to Michigan State College and chose the "Spartans" over the "Staters".
Sparty's costume is 7 ft. tall and weighs 30 lb. Five students take turns each year being Sparty. In 1998, he was voted the "Buffest Mascot" in the country. He was recently voted back to back "National Champion Mascot".

THIS LETTERBOX WAS REMOVED FALL 2011

Clues: Because his first home was destroyed, Sparty has been relocated to Danada Forest Preserve on the west side of Naperville Rd. Park in the lot at the District offices. Head to the west side of the buildings and take the limestone path to the T intersection. Turn left and walk past the starting gates. Turn right at the first path past the gates. Follow it around the right and left curves. About 200 yds. past the curves you will see a large cottonwood on the left side of the path. Sparty is resting under rocks on the back side of the tree.
