This is an easy one. It's good for kids, but the last part is not stroller-friendly. Placed by kids. It's our first one!

Drive to Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley.

Driving Directions:
Take the 18 until you reach the Maple Valley exit. It's Highway 169.
At the end of the offramp, turn EAST
Follow to the stop light, turn RIGHT
Now you're on the 169

[If you're coming from the 405, you can just take the Maple Valley Highway (169) to Maple Valley. Then start here.]

Go to Witte Road, turn RIGHT
Go to SE 248th Street, turn LEFT
Follow sign to Lake Wilderness Lodge
(If you end up at the beach, you're in the wrong parking lot.)

In years past, when the first settlers came to this forest, the pure in heart were said to catch a glimpse ...

Take thou the Lock and Post trail at the far end of the parking lot.

Rightward, pass a white, Water Knight’s helmet.

A few paces farther, the first of three gravel paths inclined upward. Pass thou by.

As you traverse onward, enter the shady tree forest, keeping the Arboretum’s fence over thy left shoulder.

Soon you’ll come to the second gravel path inclined upward. Pass thou by.

Thy path shall narrow, and thou will traipse over many-a root. Perhap you may see a salal or two. Thou mayest snack.

And here is the third gravel path inclined upward. Climb thou.

Quietly, quietly. With truth in thy heart.

Behold a trail map, and to the right, stairs. Pass thou by.

You shall find a second set of stairs. It saith, “Trail 5.” Descend thou.

A six-planked bridge shalt thou pass.

Traipse five paces to a tall pine tree on thy right.

If you are pure in heart, if you are quiet, you will find a lone beauty under the roots on the side facing the main trail.

Be discreet for wanderers on yon upper trail may see you.
