This is my "weakest link." You see,the actual location of the cemetery where Harold and Maude had the picnic is in San Bruno, on Sneath Lane. (Golden Gate Cemetery.)

However... it was one of those glorious days in San Francisco, not a cloud in the sky and I was walking in the Presidio. Next thing I know I was over at the San Francisco National Cemetery, which I think offers far superior scenery. So forgive me my one deviation from the saga of Harold and Maude. I am SURE that if Maude had seen this cemetery she would have wholeheartedly endorsed my choice.

Difficulty: Easy enough, a bit of walking needed and the ability to hoist oneself over a small fence.

Locate the SF National Cemetery near the Golden Gate Bridge. Using the main entrance, follow the path up past the caretaker's house. Pause and look out over the Bay- the view is spectacular. After passing the house, take a right and continue following the path. You will pass a maintenance yard and the public restrooms. Follow the path down to a stone fence attached to the wrought iron gate. Shimmy over this fence at the lowest point and, beginning at the wrought iron gate, count down thirteen segments of fence. The box is at the base of 12/14. The segment where the box lies has a small piece of metal protruding from it on the cemetery side.

The H&M 3 is located at the base of the fence, buried under various leaves and sticks. The street adjacent to the cemetery is busy, so use caution. Also, be careful in general as the area outside the fence is not maintained.
