AULT PARK
Directions: Make your way up to Ault Park (see directions on some of Franzsolo's clues) Find a very useful map of Ault park and trails at:
http://dynamic.cinci-parks.org/images/park_media/162.gif?114
Once at the top of the hill take Observatory circle to the right, CCW, passing the lookout shelter on the right and then the first and biggest parking area. Past the far end of this first parking area you will see picnic tables and a trail head sign behind them. Park in the second parking area close to the trail head sign.

Difficulty: Boxes are easy to find (in my opinion) and the terrain is kinda hilly with about a 100' elevation change. Paths are pretty smooth and bridges are well made. You can get a pretty good idea of the distance by checking out the link to the map above.
Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands. Bug repellant might come in handy during the summer months.

This series of letter pouches depicts various themes around Cincinnati in which Cincinnatians take pride. The subjects are located in various parts of town and due to my time constraints (just visiting from out of town) and the fact that the areas in which the subjects are located do not lend themselves to placements, leads me to put all the pouches as a series in one park. Also, you will notice that the enclosure pouch for the letterbox is not water proof so please make sure the baggies are resealed well to protect the logbooks from moisture. I have run across many boxes of various makes that have wet log books which makes the stamping and reading of the log nearly impossible, therefore removing a lot of the joy of the find. This park was also very busy on the Sunday I planted the boxes so please be discrete in getting and replacing the boxes and try to hide your tracks and the box well upon replacing it. Thank you in advance for your courtesy and I hope you enjoy hunting for and finding this series and your stroll through the trails of the park.

Cinci's Pride "ON THE DIAMOND". Head down the trail a short ways and look for the first side trail and take it a short ways to the left where you will have to step over 3 lying, dead trunks/limbs crossing the path. At the downhill end of the last trunk you will find "On the Diamond" under a rotten piece of wood.

Cinci's Pride "ON THE GRIDIRON". NOTE: REPORTED MISSING 2/5/07...TO BE REPLACED. Go back to the main trail and head down again passing a bench on the left, stone steps turning to wooden and then an intersection of trails. Go right at the intersection a short ways to a fallen log on the right of the trail, just before an upright tree. Sit down on the first part of this log and look straight ahead to a standing tree with a cavity at its base covered by some debris. "On the Gridiron" is in the cavity of the tree.

Cinci's Pride "DOWNTOWN" . Go back to the trail beside the log and head down again a short ways to another intersection of trails and go left, down to the bridge and across, then to another bridge where another path comes in from the left at the trail sign. Turn right and cross this bridge and stop. You will see another trail post straight ahead. To your right , at the top of the stream bank on the streams left side you will see a large stump with a piece of the old trunk lying beside it. "Downtown" is in the lying down portion in the split of the left hand end under a piece of wood.

Cinci's Pride "ON THE WEST SIDE". Go back to your end of your last bridge and then head to that trail post you last looked at. Turn hard left to a heading of ~ (approx.) 170* and take that trail heading up. Not far up the hill lies a rotten log on the left side. After the log the trail makes a Y and you will go left to the first tree on your right. "On the West Side" is in the hole at the base of this tree on the North side. I think I covered the hole with something. After discretely and completely doing your thing, go back down to the y and go the other direction up.

Cinci's Pride "ON THE WATER" NOTE: LOG REPORTED SOAKED 2/5/07 WILL BE REPLACED. Continue up this trail and shortly you will parallel a long wash which is on your left. Continue a ways and then the path makes a hard right and then left. As you get to the left turn there will be a tree on your right with two more tree to the right of that one. "On The Water" is behind the second one under limbs. Please be discrete and reseal the baggies well. Not far on up the hill you will emerge from the woods at the far end of a soccer field. If you head to your leftish toward the far left hand end of this field you will discover your car not far away. Hope you enjoyed the hunt and your stroll through part of the trails of Ault park and will let me hear your candid critique of the hunt and my placements by using the "contact the placer" feature on the clue page.
