We planted this letterbox on Rosh Hashanah, 2005. Happy Birthday World!

It's an easy 20-30 minute walk to the letterbox. I did it with four kids under 7 - a good kid's hike!

The letterbox is in Rocky Narrows, a Trustees of Reservations land in Sherborn. There are two parking areas -- make sure you park at the 5-car lot on Forest Street.

From the parking lot, bear left down the hill across the meadow. Turn right at the bottom of the hill away from Forest street and at your first fork, bear right. Pass through two stone walls and head into the woods.

The path is a good one - be sure to notice the stone walls left by early settlers that once marked the edges of field and farms. At the next fork (where number 21 is signposted on a tree), bear left.

At the T junction, turn right (at number 20 on the tree) to join a wide trail. Shortly after that take your first left. The trail opens to a clearing at number 19. Stay straight until you reach the river. This is the Charles River that winds its way all the way into Boston.

With your back to the river, standing at waterline in the middle of the "beach," pace back inland about 19 paces to the tree in the middle of the clearing. This is not the first tree you pass - leave that one to your right. On the non-river side of this big old oak tree is a hollow. Dig back inside behind the bark covering it to find the Birthday Cake letterbox!

There are lots of other trails to get back to your car. Please re-hide the letterbox well before you go explore. Thanks for visiting the Birthday Cake letterbox!
