Distance: .2 mi.
Difficulty: easy
Hand Carved

This box was a combined effort of to4everpaint(AZ) & pink trillium(MI). This was the first trip to Alaska for two sisters - (Thank You Mom!). We had a great time sightseeing...eating more than our fill of salmon...and had fun placing this letterbox.

Clues:

Drive from Ketchikan to Ward Lake. At Ward Lake, from the first Day-Use Picnic Area, take the hiking path west. Go 100 paces approximately past the first footbridge to a HUGE double snag tree stump sitting partway on the trail.

Take note of the beautiful striations on the west side of the stump. Just imagine the sound that tree made when it fell!...

Just past the tree, there is a faint trail on right going uphill. Take that trail straight up 20 steps. The path then turns left on to a small flat area. Look southwest for the tree that has an inverted "Y" mossy base. Climb around to the high side. Look up behind placed bark pieces to find the box.
