Lamoille Bridge Letterbox

Compass Helpful but not absolutely needed.
Time needed to find and return, 1 hour.
Difficulty: Moderate

Follow all caution and hazard notices posted along trail.
Do not climb on dangerous looking rocks.
May be difficult to access in Spring during high water.

Clues:

Starting Point: Johnson, Vermont

From highway near Forget-Me-Not
Drive Hogback down the flow.
Past Ithiel Falls camp meeting place
to where long hikers go.

Then park on pullout, left or right,
With traffic please take care
Take white trail blazes, toward the river
And down the plastic stair.

Over the foot bridge to and fro.
and across a middle island.
Down once again to a second channel
Then up a wooden ladder.

At the top of the ladder the trail goes on
To the first of a board wood walk
Then across some stepping stones
And up a hill a bit.

Further on when it levels out
You’ll come to a second wood walk.
Stone cliffs will be before you
and the trail turns to the left.

If you go beyond, to the third wood walk
and turn to your right far shoulder
You’ll see a cold dark cave in there
Beneath a fallen boulder.

I wouldn’t go in, if I were you
More suited to bears and foxes.
And anyway that isn’t where
You’ll find your precious box is.

From northmost end of second wood walk
don’t confuse it with the third.
Set compass for 270
and sight for a freak of a tree.

From the end of this second wood walk
It’s 35 paces to this three trunk tree.
Perched on a rise right behind the main trunk
is where the box will be.

Note: wooden ladder is reported gone Spring of 2006.
