April 6, 2005, is an important day to me. As I clicked the “purchase now” button on my computer, buyer’s remorse immediately set in. I had just “bought” my entry to the Nike Women’s Marathon. It can’t be too hard, right? After running countless 5K’s, 10K’s and two half marathons (The Texas Half 2004 was during a blizzard), a full marathon seemed like the next logical step. My training takes me to The Woodlands four days a week to run the various loops and trails. North Shore park is the start of many of my runs, so I thought this would be the perfect place for my first attempt at carving a stamp! This stamp, Visual Aid, is what I think about while running. It gets me through my long runs, my intervals and my short runs. I look forward to seeing the real thing one day!

Before you begin searching, enjoy a few of my favorite running quotes:

Jogging is very beneficial. It's good for your legs and your feet. It's also very good for the ground. It makes it feel needed. ~Charles Schulz, Peanuts

The difference between a jogger and a runner is an entry blank. ~George Sheehan

Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first. ~Author Unknown

There are clubs you can't belong to, neighborhoods you can't live in, schools you can't get into, but the roads are always open. ~Nike

As always, before heading out on a (letterboxing) run, make sure you stretch properly!!

Directions: From I-45, take the Lake Woodlands/Research Forest/Woodlands Mall exit. You will pass Pappas BarBQ on the right hand side of the feeder. Shortly after that, you will go under a bridge. Turn right under the bridge, which will take you on the bridge over the freeway. As you come over the bridge, The Woodlands Mall will be on your left. Go through the light at Pinecroft, Six Pines and Grogans Mill. You will pass a church on your right and will then go over a bridge. Immediately after the bridge, you will want to turn left into North Shore Park. This park has restroom facilities, a water fountain, playground and picnic area.

Clues:

From the parking lot, walk towards the restrooms. Standing in front of the restrooms, you will see a path that goes to the right and to the left. Take the one to the right ( you will be walking towards Lake Woodlands. Before you get to the little cement "bridge" in the path, there will be a faint footpath to your left off of the main cement path. This path will eventually lead you behind the restroom building. Find the large pine tree at the back corner of the building. The letterbox is behind the pine tree at the base, covered in vines and pine needles. Please rehide well as this is a popular area.

Send me an e-mail and let me know how Visual Aid is doing!
