This series of boxes has been planted in conjunction with the Johnson/Ellis/Navarro (JEN) Barnraising Event. They are hidden in Getzendaner Park in Waxahachie. To find the park, take S. Grand off W. Main (Bus. 287), which leads right into the one-way drive circling through the park. Drive past the Chatauqua building and park near the iron bridge, between telephone poles #5 and #6, and look for the stone monument sign that says “START.” Clues begin here.

Box 1 - "Country Road" - BOX #1 IS MISSING. I CHECKED ON IT 3/08/06. HOWEVER THE OTHER TWO BOXES IN THIS SERIES ARE STILL IN PLACE.Cross the bridge and go right where the trail splits. At the first Y, take the trail on the left. You will pass a small side trail on the right, but ignore it and continue on. At the next Y, go right. After about 15 paces (30 steps) from the Y, stop and look at the huge dead tree on the left. Locate a large fallen log behind the dead tree and go to it (about 6 paces off the trail). Hidden under bark towards the left end of the log is the box.

Box 2 - "Don't Fence Me In" - After stamping into Box 1, return to the trail and continue in the direction you were going (NW). You will pass a small trail on your left. About 6 paces past this side trail will be a huge tree on the left. Admire this tree, but continue on down the trail through tall weeds (at least in the summer and fall), passing and ignoring more small side trails leading down to the river. Step over a fallen tree across the trail and continue on. Soon you will see and hear Interstate 35 on your left. BE CAREFUL! Your path will soon be blocked by a barbed wire fence. Look to your right. You will see a concrete manhole and a tree growing to the left of it. Box 2 will be hiden under bark behind this tree!

Box 3 - "Places In The Heart" - The 1984 Movie, Places In The Heart, starring Sally Field, Ed Harris, John Malkovich and Danny Glover was made in Waxahachie. It was set in the 1930's and was about a widow and her family trying to run their cotton farm with the help of a disparate group of friends. The movie won 2 Oscars including Best Actress and was nominated seven times including the Best Picture category. One of the most dramatic and powerful scenes was of a tornado bearing down on their farmhouse. To find box #3, return down the trail you just traveled to the iron bridge where you started. Don’t cross the bridge, but pass by the bridge and continue on down the trail. You will soon see a huge fallen tree laying on the left side of the path that has been split down the middle. At the split of the tree, take a compass bearing of 240 degrees (SW), and you will see a large "tri-trunk-tree" approximately 14 paces (28 steps) off the trail. Go to this tree. The letterbox is cradled under bark at the base of this tree.
After stamping into the logbook, retrace your steps back to the iron bridge to the parking lot!
