NOTE BY WEBMASTER: Reliable sources tell us this box is temporarily unavailable due to construction in the area. As updates are available, they will be posted here.

NOTE BY PLACER: We recently learned from very conscientious letterboxers that the property has been sold. The new owner discovered them stamping in and seemed okay with it as "good, clean fun". As soon as we can, we'll make the trip down there to ask permission in person, since we don't have a name or address to write to. In the meantime, please be especially considerate if you hunt this box!
Thank you!

BACKGROUND: The Superconducting Super Collider was one of the most amazing projects never built.
This ring particle accelerator, the equivalent of a super high powered microscope for physicists, was planned to be built in the area around Waxahachie, Texas It was designed to fire subatomic particles through an underground accelerator tunnel to study the collision remnants in an attempt to determine the basic building blocks of the universe. Accelerators are to particle physics what telescopes are to astronomy, or microscopes are to biology. These instruments all reveal and illuminate worlds that would otherwise remain hidden from our view. They are the indispensable tools of scientific progress.
The project was eventually canceled by Congress in 1993 after 22.5 km (14 mi) of tunnel were already dug and 2 billion dollars spent.
You may be surprised at the eerie feeling of walking around these deserted buildings.

DIRECTONS: From Rte. 35 take exit 399B and turn West onto FM 1446 for just under 5 miles. Turn North on Hoyt Road for 1/10 mile, and look for a cluster of deserted tan metal buildings on left. Enter second driveway and drive into parking lot on the right.

CLUES: Look for two concrete conductors with rusted metal rails, and allow yourself to be magnetically drawn to the other side. Where the conductor collides with the ground, on the right side is a small thorn tree with a concrete brick at its base. This collision event will produce what you seek.
