***This series has been retired, (9/13/07) thanks to all who have taken the time to seek it***

Stamps: Hand Carved

Only the Band Leader contains an inkpad.

This is a 10 box series to honor the dedication of the kids in the Dennis-Yarmouth High School Marching Band and their Conductors. I don’t know any of these kids personally, but I hear them every other night (rain or Moon) and Saturdays when they are not competing.

Their commitment is evident….

In 2003 the D-Y Band won 1st place in the All-States Championship, which encompasses most of the eastern states. Last year they won a 1st place in the New England Championship and a 3rd in the All-States. The Band will compete this year for the New England Championship on October 29th and if placed in the top 10 will go to the All-States a week later…

May their beat go on and their notes ring true

****UPDATE**** 11/11/05
The D-Y Marching Band placed No.1 in the State, No.2 in New England and No.5 in the East Coast Division II. They will go to Dublin, Ireland in March to be in the St. Patrick's Day Parade Competition.

Well Done Kids and Mr. P!

Brass

Location:

Chandler Gray Cemetery on Old Mill Lane, Yarmouth

The Tuba:
Proceed to the SSW corner of the cemetery. Turn west and count off 5 posts. At the fifth post will be a small oak on your left. The Tuba is at the base of this oak

The Trumpet:
Go to the NE corner of the cemetery. Follow the path just past the last post headed west.10 paces in will be two red pipes. Line these pipes up and just to the left will be a pine tree about ten feet in. The Trumpet will be at the base.

The Trombone:
Return to the tree line and follow it west to another trail. 85 paces from the beginning of this path will be a double trunk tree with 3 smaller trunks on your right. The Trombone will be at the base

Winds

Location:

Conservation area off of White Rock Road, Yarmouth. Pull off just opposite #274, marked by 2 yellow posts and a yellow wire.

Flute:

Start down the path, at the 2nd No Hunting sign (with a little blue ‘coin’ beneath) take a bearing of 155 degrees to the stump of a fallen tree. From the base of this stump take a bearing of 180 degrees to a tree with a black stripe, about 25 paces away. The flute is in a hole at the base of this tree covered with leaves and sticks.

Clarinet:

Go back to the main trail and continue on. At the Y bear right and take the first path on the right towards the water. As you near the water turn right and go upstairs, until you see a path on the right. Five paces past this path is a large Rhododendron on the left. The Clarinet is in this rhododendron at the base of a small twin oak under leaves and sticks.

Sax:

Return to the main trail and turn right. Count again the No Hunting signs. The third sign will be on a triple oak. Back track 25 paces to a small cluster of 4 oaks on the right. The Sax in located in the middle under leaves, sticks and a rock.

The Percussion

Location: Fresh Pond Conservation area/ Dog Park, Rte. 134, South Dennis, between High Bank and Center St.

Triangle:

Walk around the dog ‘pens’ to the bench dedicated to Corinne L. Eldridge. Take the path just to the right by two concrete posts. Go past the bench and over the planks to the second tree in the middle of the path with an orange rhombus. Step off 10 paces to a pine tree, turn right and take 6 paces to a double pine. The Triangle is on the right side at the base of this tree.

Drum:

Continue down the path to the pond and go right until you see a Cape Cod shaped tree with another orange rhombus. Take 15 paces down trail, on the left is an L shaped tree over hanging the water. The Drum is under the roots of the oak to the left of this tree.

Cymbals:

Continue on the path and take the first path on the right. Follow the trail until you see on a pine in the middle with another orange rhombus down in a little gully. On the left is a maple slanted @ 30 degrees. The Cymbals are planted on the right of this tree under some sticks and leaves tucked in a little hole under the roots.

The Band Leader:

Location: ???

1st set, 2nd clue, 2nd letter
1st set, 1st clue, 13th letter
2nd set, 1st clue, 33rd letter
2nd set, 2nd clue, 4th letter
3rd set, 1st clue, 6th letter
3rd set 3rd clue, 1st letter

Unscramble the letters to find your starting point.

Follow the path directly across from the entrance. Count the paces of the total number you arrived at in the front of the logbooks plus the number of boxes in this series. Start your paces at the end of the tarmac.
Ignore the path on the left, but bear left at the fork. On the right about 8 paces in will be a dead tree shaped like a Y. The Band Leader will be at the ‘joint’ under some leaves and sticks.

The Fresh Pond Conservation and the Conservation area off of White Rock Road, Yarmouth are dog friendly.
Chandler Gray Cemetery (as all cemeteries in Yarmouth) and the location of the Band Leader do not allow dogs, although they will not take long, please keep in mind that the inside of a car heats up rapidly in warm weather. The furry four legged ones might do best to sit the Brass & Band Leader out at home and join the hunt on Winds and Percussion.

Take 'note' of the Letters & Numbers in the front of all the logs... It might lead you to another of lifes Mysteries..

**** due to the need to replace missing boxes, the numbers & letters are no longer viable, the 'mystery it refers to has also been updated****

As always, please be discreet, re-hide carefully, and leave only footprints behind.

Have Fun!
