Roadrunner

Planted by Viewfinder.

Difficulty: easy
Distance: approximately .1 mile (Trail is hike/equestrian; bikes are not allowed in the park – watch for horses!)

Bob Jones Park and Nature Center is located 2 miles north of Hwy 114 on White Chapel Road in the City of Southlake, on the south shore of Lake Grapevine. It includes several hundred acres of relatively undisturbed Cross Timbers ecosystem. The Walnut Grove Equestrian and Hiking Trails crisscross the area.

To find the Roadrunner, enter the park at the first park entrance, marked by a monument sign that says Bob Jones Park. Follow the road past soccer fields toward the “overflow parking” area, turning right past the signs identifying park birds and wildlife(OOPS! These signs are not there anymore, so just turn right toward the overflow parking), and continue to the last parking lot at the end of this road past the dog park. Park near the east end of the lot where the paved trail leads away from the parking lot in a generally Eastward direction. After just a short distance the trail curves, and then soon, the sidewalk ends but a dirt road continues straight ahead. Looking down this road from the end of the sidewalk, you will notice a very large cedar tree almost straight ahead, several hundred feet in front of you. That’s the place where the Roadrunner waits! Walk down the dirt road and about 5-6 feet off the road on the left, go around behind the tree and look near the center of the tree, wedgned in next to the trunk for the roadrunner. Please wedge the letterbox carefully into the branches when you replace it so it will not fall to the ground. Please reseal the bags well and rehide the box carefully!
