NOTE: New (dry) logbook and box provided by recent finder (Basketcase?) to replace soggy existing ones from broken/missing boxtop. Thanks! LB is now resting UNDER the tree on the back side. Please be careful to reseal bags and box. Thanks.

Difficulty: easy
Distance: approximately ¼ mile roundtrip (Trail is hike/equestrian; bikes are not allowed on the trail – watch for horses!)

Bob Jones Park and Nature Center is located 2 miles north of Hwy 114 on White Chapel Road in the City of Southlake, on the south shore of Lake Grapevine. It includes several hundred acres of relatively undisturbed Cross Timbers ecosystem. The Walnut Grove Equestrian and Hiking Trails crisscross the area.

Go north on White Chapel Road past the Bob Jones park sign to E. Bob Jones Road and turn right. Follow this meandering road about a mile and watch for the Walnut Grove Trailhead (small parking lot on the left at the sharp curve in the road). Park and cross over the horse-gate to the dirt trail and go left. At the first intersection you reach, take the trail to the right and soon you’ll see the lake on your left, and, on your right … what’s this? Bat Houses! Currently empty, these are potentially homes for Mexican Freetail Bats, the same microbats that live in colonies all over North America, most famously beneath the Congress Ave. Bridge in Austin and at the Bat World Wild Sanctuary west of Fort Worth in Mineral Wells. You’ll pass Bat House #5, #4, #3, #2, and #1 as you continue along the trail. At the next intersection, again go to the right and soon you’ll enter a small open area with a medium-size lone cedar tree off in the grass on your left. On the west side of this tree, approximately half-way up the tree (about my eye-level), the box is wedged carefully in the branches.

Please reseal the bags well and rehide the box carefully!
