Pioneer Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Trumbull County; it was established back in the 1800’s. I became familiar with the cemetery during a ghost walk. They bring you in behind the Red Cross to where the cemetery is located to tell you a story out of Trumbull County’s history. Its dark, with a bunch of carved pumpkins lit. Later, my husband I went back and walked around during the day looking at the head stones. It’s a place that was interesting to me, and I hope you find it the same.

Directions: Pioneer Cemetery is located on Mahoning Ave. in Warren Ohio. I’m going to provide you with the address for the American Red Cross so you can map quest the directions. You will pull into the Red Cross’s parking lot and go all the way to the back. The cemetery is located there. American Red Cross 661 Mahoning Ave NW Warren OH 44483. www.mapquest.com

Clues: Park at the back lot of the Red Cross. Walk into the cemetery and stop. Turn to your left and walk along the fence line until you see a marker for the old cemetery. Stop and read the marker. When you are finished reading, notice the large stone to the right, with day lilies planted around it. Walk to the front of the stone and get down on your hands and knees. Move the lilies to the right and it will uncover an opening beneath the large stone. The box is in the opening to the back and right.

When you are finished, please make sure the box is pushed back out of view and that the lilies are placed to cover the opening once again.

As always, happy hunting!!!!!
