There really is a beach in Acworth, but darned if I can tell you how to get there. I just turn off of Main Street into the residential area and wander around until I find it. I go there every year for a family reunion but never seem to remember just how to get there.

The beach is part of Lake Allatoona and is a fairly nice beach. There are playgrounds and a pavilion that can be rented. During the summer the parking fee is $5 per car. Take the kids and a picnic! Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.

Personal historical note – You know I’ve got one, I’m older than dirt and I’ve lived in this area all my life. My mother was born in Acworth, in a house that my granddad built. The house is still there, but he lost it during the depression. They moved from this house into an apartment in what is now a B&B called Serendipity. The burned out mill (that is to be rebuilt) off of Mail street used to be a textile mill (they made tufted bedspreads) and is where Granddad worked until it closed during the depression.

The stamp is from the car tag that promotes wildflowers. The fee for the tag goes towards the wildflower plantings along the highways.

Clue – Find the covered pavilion at the edge of the park and near a chapel. Walk down the brick path to the wooden bridge. Feed the ducks, just because they’re there. Cross the bridge and walk the gravel path into the woods. In just a little while, you will be able to see a house at the end of the path. Just as you see the house, look to your right and there will be a LARGE tree on the side of the path. Behind the tree is a hollow in the base of the tree. BE CAREFUL! The tree has grown around a strand of barbed wire and it guards the box.

All the usual disclaimers apply. BE CAREFUL! Take out what you take in. Watch the kids around the water. FUN IS THE ONLY OPTION!
