Der Red Max
***Temporarily removed for maintainance. It will be returned in June***
The letterbox will only be available during rocket launches that are hosted by WOOSH, a local model rocketry club. Only small model rockets are flown at these launches and the letterbox is located just beyond the edge of the flying field. Those in search of the letterbox will be well away from the rocket activity and at a safe distance. Launches are typically held the first Saturday of each month. They begin at 10:00am and will last until 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon.
The launches are held at Consolidated Sod Farm, which is located on Lincoln Avenue at about 180th street in New Berlin. Don’t expect to see a field of well cared for and neatly mowed sod. The field has been unused for a number of years and would more appropriately be described a weed farm. More information on the location and times of the launches can be found at www.wooshrocketry.org.
To find the letterbox park in the parking lot that is on the south west corner of the field. If you are coming from the east you’ll find the field and the parking lot on the north side of Lincoln Avenue just beyond a newly built condo complex.
A gravel road runs straight north past the sign and out of the parking lot. The gravel road may be blocked by a gate. Walk past the gate and follow the road north. Soon after passing the gate another gravel road will branch off to the east and into the field. Continue north. When you reach a second gravel road heading east into the field continue north for fifty paces. Der Red Max will be at the base of a large, multi-trunked tree on your left.
