WHO INVENTED THE HOT DOG? BOX TEMP PULLED DUE TO DAMAGE TO STAMP. WILL BE REPLACED

Difficulty: Super Easy!!!!

Location: Stevens Park, Niles OH

Directions: Take St. Rt. 46 South. Turn left onto Vienna Ave. to Hartzell. Turn right onto Hartzell. Take Hartzell until you come to a stop light (intersection of Hartzell and Hughes) Turn left onto Hughes. Go up the hill and the road comes to a Y, go to the left.

Information: In 1936 the land that is now Stevens Park was donated to the city of Niles by the Stevens family. They donated it for the development of a park in memory of Harry Mozley Stevens.

In the sporting world there are two things which are undeniably invaluable, the score card and the hot dog. Harry Mozley Stevens introduced them both.

Stevens made Niles OH his home after emigrating from England in the early 1880’s. He created the baseball scorecard introducing it in Columbus OH. This marked his entry into the world of sports concessionaires. This led him to the polo grounds in NY where he personified the great American dream when he introduced the concept of the hot dog and laid foundation for the largest family owned sports concession company.

This company serves the fans at Candlestick Park, Church Hill Downs, Giants Stadium, The Astrodome, Fenway Park and over 30 other famous stadiums, arenas and racetracks.

So now that you’ve had your history lesson on Harry Stevens and the hot dog……………….lets get down to letterboxing!!!!!

Clues: As you drive up the hill and come to the “Y” in the road, watch on the left side of the road for a plaque about Harry Mozley Stevens. When you see the plaque, find an appropriate place to park and walk to the plaque. Read over the information provided there to be sure I got it correct  when you are finished reading, look down at the base of the plaque. See the bush on the left? Pull it towards you away from the plaque and the letter box will be there. See I told you it was super duper easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
