*** Boxes have been pulled for the season.***

These are seasonal boxes and will only be available from December 1st thru January 31st each year.

All boxes are at Foxbrook Park. The park is located approximately 1 mile south of Capitol Drive on Barker Road, north of the railroad tracks and on the west side of Barker Road. There is a small fee to enter the park, unless you have an annual county park sticker.

Time: 1-3 hours depending on how quickly and colorfully you stamp. The stamp images are meant to be colorful so bring markers!

History:

The song Twelve Days of Christmas takes its name from the season (which is also known as Twelvetide). These are the twelve days beginning on the night of Christmas (December 25) and ending on the Epiphany (January 6). In the Middle Ages this period was one of continuous feasting and merrymaking, which climaxed on Twelfth Night, the traditional end of the Christmas season.

Contrary to popular belief, Christmas is not the "first day." By ancient reckoning, days and nights were counted separately, and the important night was often the night before, not the night of, the celebration (hence modern traditions of Christmas Eve and All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween). The "twelve days" count actually begins with the eve of December 25, the "first night." The day of December 26 is the "first day," the eve of December 26 the "second night," and so on. The famous Twelfth Night is the eve of Epiphany, and the twelfth day is Epiphany itself.

There are multiple variations to the last four verses of the song. The original variation of the song ends with twelve lords, eleven ladies, ten drummers, and nine pipers, which is what this series is modeled from.

Clues:

Snow may make some of these clues a little more difficult to follow, so be sure to pay close attention to your surroundings and the details.

Start at the playground on the North side of the beach.
Stand at the “Double Slide” facing Southeast (facing the clubhouse).
The First Day of Christmas can be found between the rocks at the base of the tree.

Follow the sidewalk Northwest to the paved path.
Pass the small red station and spot the green box.
Notice rock cluster Northeast of the box across the road.
This is actually an uprooted tree.
The Second Day of Christmas is at Northwest corner of roots under some flat rocks.

Head back to the path and continue West.
Spot the peninsula on the left by the parking lot. (If you get to the next building you have gone too far).
Walk to the tip of the peninsula and face North.
Notice the three-trunked tree overhanging the water on the East side of the peninsula.
The Third Day of Christmas is hidden below a pile of rocks at the base.

Continue West on the path to the red shelter.
Go to the rear of the shelter and face the back door.
The Fourth Day of Christmas is in beneath a rock at the base of the evergreen plant to the right of the door.

Continue West along the path, noticing three similar looking trees on the right side and the path to the lookout on the left side.
The Fifth Day of Christmas is under rocks near the base of the "similar" tree that is closest to the path.

Continue West to the curve.
At the apex of the curve is a drainage pipe crossing under the path.
The Sixth Day of Christmas is under a rock at the Southwest corner of the South drain.

Continue Southwest on the path and stop immediately after you pass between two trees on the side of the path.
To your left is a tree stump.
The Seventh Day of Christmas is hidden within the stump.

Continue down the path to the lookout.
The Eighth Day of Christmas is hidden at the Southwest corner of the lookout, between a small plant and wooden support beam.

Continue heading South on the path.
Notice the building and the backward sign on the right.
There is a path to the backward sign, but DO NOT take it.
Instead, continue 32 steps to another path on the right that leads to the tallest tree in that direction.
Take this path to the tree.
The Ninth Day of Christmas is located under some rusted metal to the right of the tree.
Note there is a geo-cache in the same area, if you have never seen one.

Return to the paved path and continue East.
Watch for the large bike path on the right that intersects your path.
Walk down the bike path until you spot two cement cubes.
The Tenth Day of Christmas is hidden under some rocks behind one of the cubes.

Head back to the paved path and continue East to the next lookout.
The Eleventh Day of Christmas is under the lookout at the Southwest corner, wedged in-between the support beams.

Continue East down the paved path to the yellow gas pipeline.
Go 55 steps from the pipeline and notice a large rock on the left.
From that rock, go another 42 steps and spot a rock cluster part way up the ledge on the right hand side with a visible opening.
The Twelfth Day of Christmas is under a rock above the visible opening.
