Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area is Ohio's largest remaining marshland area outside of the Lake Erie region. It is home for many animal species, and is a very important migratory bird area. It is a nesting home for bald eagles, sandhill cranes, and barn owls, all of which are threatened or endangered species. Only two trails exist here, using an old B&O Railroad bed, so the hike is flat, though often wet, muddy, or completely floaded. Your walk will be very short, but wear appropriate footwear. The box is located just to the south of the Refuge, which requires no trespassing. I highly recommend the .gif or .pdf map on this website: http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/wildlife/Hunting/wildlifeareas/northeast/northea.htm
Driving Directions:
See map above. If you are coming off Route 83, you will turn west onto County Line Road (CR 1). You might see a parking area on your left, but there is no trail there. You will come around a slight curve not far up the road and there will be a pull off area on your left. If you go over the little bridge, you've gone too far. Park here.
Trail Directions:
You should see some yellow and red signs at the beginning of the trail. A very short distance up the trail you will find a large willow tree that appears to block your path. Attempt to go around the tree on the left end, towards the roots. When you are between the water and the root base, put your hand on a small tree growing here. Bend down and look under the root that is touching this small tree. A few chunks of bark should cover what you seek! Please replace well hidden.
