This box was missing for over 6 months. Miraculously, it was found by some letterboxers, downstream from its original hiding place. I've rehiden it in a new location.

I would like to thank Pom, Pom Bear and Monarch B for bringing this box back to life!!!

This box is dedicated to the Sidewalk Astronomers, a group of amateur astronomers that are dedicated to sharing the wonders of the night sky with the public. The Sidewalk Astronomers was founded in 1968 by world famous amateur astronomer, John Dobson. Initially, Dobson made telescopes by grinding the mirrors from discarded ship's windows and the bottoms of gallon jugs. They were wheeled from house to house on old rusty wheels from a child's discarded wagon. Dobson would wheel a telescope down the street till someone asked what it was. "It's a telescope," he would reply. "Do you want to borrow it?" Usually the answer would be "Yes," and they would look for a place where Dobson could leave it for a month for the people in the neighborhood to use. Often, Dobson would operate the telescope and explain to the viewers what they were seeing.

At the age of 90, he now travels the world giving lectures and teaching people how to build inexpensive, portable telescopes. When he is at home, in San Fransico, he can be found most every night on the sidewalks with a scope, urging people to take a look.

Today, the Sidewalk Astronomers entertain the public with large, portable telescopes on the sidewalks of cities. They also host star parties and astronomical slide shows in schools, museums, state and national parks and monuments; so that the viewers may understand what they see through the eyepiece of a telescope.

New clues:

The Sidewalk Astronomers box is located in Forest Park, in Fort Worth. From Forest Park Blvd, heading South, turn right onto Rockridge Terrace. You will see a yellow City Park sign at the turn. The park is on your left. Park in the parking lot to the right. You will see a sign that says, "Tillery" near the playground on your right. Walk through the fence, down the steps.

Turn to your left (South). You will see a church on a hill in the distance. Head toward the church. Cross the first sidewalk you come to. At the next sidewalk, go left and start heading down the hill. Go down a set of steps. Turn Left. Go up a set of steps, counting as you go. At the 13th step, look behind the rock ledge on your left, where the ledge meets the stone pillar. The box is covered by a piece of concrete.
