Big Bend National Park-Cat Tail Falls LbNA #19703 (ARCHIVED)

From the Santa Elena Junction, follow Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive SOUTH toward Santa Elena Canyon for about 3.5 miles to the sign for the SAM NAIL RANCH pull out. About .1 mile further, take a LEFT on an unpaved rocky road. Drive unimproved road keeping RIGHT into the parking area. Follow trail sign to the "Cat Tail Falls" hike. Approximately 100 yards before reaching Cat Tail Falls, locate a 2X4 foot metal box/water meter on the trail. Proceed 20 feet further toward Cat Tail Falls and locate a small pile of large rocks topped by smaller rocks on the RIGHT side of the trail, with a small scrub tree growing in the center. Face tree from the trail, the Cat Tail Falls letter box is 15 inches to the LEFT of the tree trunk, about knee high, tucked under small rocks.
