<<< NOTE: This box has been reported missing by a couple of folks - it is probably gone. This is still a nice area for a walk. >>>
Symbols of Colorado #6: Bighorns. There are lots of bighorn boxes already in Colorado, but the Symbols of Colorado series didn't feel complete without my own. This box is in a place where you may actually see bighorn sheep; of our three trips here, we've seen them twice.
Terrain: Easy to moderate. Short walk, but the trail is poor.
Clues: Easy.
Clues:
Between Canon City and Cotopaxi, find Five Points and park on the south side of the river. The trail map shows a trail along the gulch, but it is hard to find; if the gulch is dry, it may be better to walk in the gulch. Walk up the gulch until you find the bombshell bathtub. Across the gulch from this is a small (cedar?) scrub tree. Search the rocks behind it for bighorns.
Notes:
- There is a fee for parking here; $5 last time I checked.
- No inkpad or pencil in the box, make sure you bring your own.
- Watch out for wildlife in the area.
- Please do not ask me for additional hints without offering a bribe of unpublished clues, hitchhikers, etc.
- Please email me with notes about the box: jelybean.books@comcast.net.
