FROM RAIL TO TRAIL
Railway History

Originally constructed in the 1860s as the Niles and Lisbon Railroad, the line served as an important link between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. In its heyday, the track bustled with passenger trains and freight trains hauling coal, steel, iron ore, produce, and dry goods. Each community along the line boasted its own passenger depot, freight house, and telegraph office.

Directions: From Interstate 80 take St. Rt. 46 south to Kirk Road. Turn Right onto Kirk Road and the depot is on the left approximately 2 miles.

You can walk to find this box, or if you'd like bring your bikes. There is also another box located on this trail, placed by Kilroy.

1 Pace = 2 steps

Clues: Park in the lot and looked for the paved walk up to the bike trail. Take this walk to the trail and go left. Walk the trail until you come to a concrete 5-mile marker. When you reach the mile marker, count 12 paces and stop. Look to your left and locate a small tree with a stump behind it. Go to the stump and the box is hidden behind it under some bark. Please re-hide carefully when you are finished. And enjoy your time on the bike path!!!!

** Please note that the 5 mile marker is not from the Kirk Road Depot. The 5 miles are from the beginning of the bike path in Trumbull County. Your walk from the depot is approximately 1/4 mile. *****

As always, happy hunting!
