I have cleaned this box up and dried the logbook. Hopefully it is good for a while.

At “The Grove” in Glenview, Illinois, there are many trails to take a walk in the woods. If you seek this letterbox, you’ll have a nice hike. “The Kennicott House,” a national historic landmark, is located on the grounds of The Grove. It is at 1421 Milwaukee Avenue, just south of Lake Avenue. Hours are 8 am until 4:30 pm weekdays, 9 to 5 on weekends, though the trails are accessible until sunset. This letterbox adventure is an easy one and can be enjoyed by young and old.

You’ll find The Grove on the east side of Milwaukee Avenue. On the right hand side of the drive as you enter is the Kennicott House. Leave your car in the east parking area. If it’s full, feel free to park in the lower lot.

After parking, you should look around for the wooden entrance at a trail pointing the way to a Visitor Entrance. If you look ahead as you walk along the paved path, you’ll see the cage of the resident great horned owl, Buddica. (She is our new owl. Hoots died a while ago. She was about 30 years old!) At this cage, your search will begin. Go ahead… hoot at her. She might answer you. Buddica was injured, but can not be returned to the wild. She cannot fly well enough. She’ll be happily sitting high up in her cage eyeballing you or a tidbit or two in the bottom of her cage.

If Buddica could be out and about like other owls, she would take off down the path going the same direction you have been going, but it is a short flight. At the first “Y” in the path, she would soar left following the split rail fence. There might be some children learning about Native Americans, but Buddica wouldn’t care.

What’s in front of her? One of her favorite perches has been downed because it was falling down. Buddica can still land on the stumps all about. You will pass a path to the left leading to the ole swimming hole (don't swim there, though... it's very mucky). From that T in the path, take 12 steps to a big kettle. It's very overgrown now with prickly briars, so be careful. Look down, being sure not to be too obvious to other Grove visitors. We don't want our LB to get muggled. Look down and see some wood covering your treasure.

You and Buddica can continue along the trail taking each turn left until you’re back where you started. Enjoy everything at The Grove. It's a great place, even if I do say so myself. (I'm prejudiced... I work here!)
