Status of Letterbox: ***** REPORTED MISSING ***** not confirmed, but stamp was gone anyway.
The "Urban Cowboy" letterbox is dedicated to Tin Hall, which has been a Cypress icon for 100 years. This dance hall, which is now surounded by the Longwood subdivision, is now only open for private parties. I guess since I grew up in Pasadena, Urban Cowboy takes on another meaning also (that's right SISSY). The box itself is located down the street at a new park, Cypress Creek Preserve. This park has limited availability, since the land has destructive use in the past and they are trying to return it to a nature preserve. The hours now have been expanded to the FIRST TWO WEEKENDS of every month.
Directions:
From Hwy 290 heading toward Austin, take the Telge Rd exit. Turn right on Telge. Go past Huffmeister (stop sign). The next light is Spring Cypress joining in, so stay straight. At the next light (Spring Cypress is going to the right), turn left into the entrance for the park.
To the Letterbox:
Walk up and into the preserve over the wooden ramp. Go right. Stay right until you climb up a bit to the edge of a bigger pond. Look across the pond Northwest at 310 degrees and find the benches. This is your next goal. Walk around the pond to the 6 benches. From the benches, go Northwest at 320 degrees to the big loan oak in the middle of the trail forks. The box is at the base of this tree, under the yupon branches, covered with bark and dirt. Please re-cover it well. Let me know the status of this letterbox: babybearlb2002@yahoo.com
