“You run in different fields now. Effortless.
You jump and play with wild abandon. Painless.
Eternally young and carefree. Timeless.”
Jim Willis

Al'ie-dawg and I loved to tramp these woods and fields. This was one of her favorite places, and mine, too. This is my first plant. I rate it moderate, a compass is handy (some bearings in the clue) but not essential.

The box is located in Mansfield Hollow which is in Tolland County, however North Windham is the closest town.

From Rte. 6 heading East turn left at the light at Rte. 203 (past the airport/commuter parking lot). Cross the bridge over the Natchaug River and take the first left onto North Windham Rd. Park in the lot to the right of the yellow gate.

You will start from the DEP bulletin board in this parking area. Bring clues for Chuck and Molly's "Nessie" and "In Search of Caddy" letterboxes, and Carolyn's "One by Land, One by Sea" letterbox.

Get back onto the old North Windham Rd. on the other side of the yellow gate and follow it Southeast. On the right you will see an overgrown field. Step into the field and walk parallel to the road until you can find your way onto the path at the bottom of the vale between two eskers. The path parallels the road which runs atop the esker on the left. Follow the path to it's end at the old paved road (guess which one :p)

At 280° across the road enter an old dirt road, now a path. Follow this path as it curves around to the left. It will appear to end at a recent blow-down on the low stonewall that runs roughly East-West. The Natchaug River is to your right--see where the beavers have been busy at the water's edge around the corner at the end of the wall.

Turn left and follow the wall east, stay on the northern side of the wall to the top of a small hill. On your right at 140º is a small kettle pond, in front of you is a large oak with a "knee" pointing North.

Stand with your back to the tree, and facing the old stone fireplace, take a compass reading of 220° to the stonewall. On the South side in the wall behind some rocks, with a piece of wood sticking out you will find Alabama's Getaway Letterbox.

Please stamp in away from the hiding place, and carefully avoid making or at least try to conceal social trails to the letterbox--especially in mud or snow! Kindly double-bag the log, reseal the Lock-n-Lock type box, and re-hide the letterbox exactly where it was placed, covering it well and contact the placer if you find any problems.

Thank you, Connfederate
