Shohola Lake Letterbox

WARNING : This box is NOT available during November and early December. Wear blaze orange when boxing in this area during hunting season.

This box is a short drive off of I-84 and an easy 10 minute walk. Parts of the trail are sometimes a bit swampy.

From Interstate 84

West on Route 6 away from Milford Pa. proceed towards Hawley for 8.4 miles.

You will see an old sign for Shohola Falls Inn and Cabins. Keep alert this is easy to miss! Turn left at the sign and follow this rocky road for .3 of a mile keeping to the right at the fork. Park in the lower parking lot on your left, the one nearest the lake.

Keeping the lake on your right find the trail near a boulder and a tree with a “Hunters Wear Orange and so should you” sign.

Follow the trail keeping the lake on your right, cross over two fallen logs, trail goes through a narrow passage created by two boulders. Then cross over three fallen logs.

Stay on trail with lake on your right. You will begin moving uphill slightly away from the lake. Pass the spiky logs, watch for large rocks on your left, on the right you will see a rock formation with a hole through it about 20 yards off the trail.

Continue up the trail 100 yards, stop when you get to a scaly rock that is part of the trail. Stand on the scaly rock, on your left at 96 degrees will be three trees growing closely together. On your right at 245 degrees find the flat rock with tall dead tree on top. It is about 6 paces off the trail.

What you seek is hidden on the lake side of this rock under the natural rock teepee.
