Peoples State Forest, Barkhamsted, Connecticut
From Matthies Grove Parking Area (North of the entrance) cross East River Road and take the Blue Trail. Shortly you will see a large boulder on the left (with a large tree and a smaller tree with orange fungi growing on it on the right). Take 10 paces down the trail to find a hollow, fallen stump on the right. Here is where you will find the Woods Violet Letterbox, carved by Butterfly. UNCONFIRMED MISSING.
At the Y intersection turn right onto the (Blue with) Orange Dot Trail. Cross Greenwoods Road and stay on the orange dot trail. Go over the bridge and up the hill.
Cross over the brook again. Keep going up the hill (Phew!).
Follow the trail to the James Stocking Recreational Area. From the sign for the recreational area, go across the street to an unmarked trail. At the âTâ, turn left onto the Blue Trail. Immediately count 20 paces to find a fallen two-sister tree on the left with a trunk in between. The Deer Letterbox, carved by Music Woman, is tucked in the âVâ of the tree.
Continue on the Blue trail. At the intersection, go right onto Blue to return to East River Road and the parking area.
