Hike: easy to moderate. Easy going down the hill, but you have to huff back up the hill!
From Route CT 44, take Route 272 North. Go 4.1 miles and turn left onto Campbell Falls Road (there is a big sign for Campbell Falls State Park). Go 0.3 miles and turn into the parking area on your left. THere is a CT/MA state border marker, built in 1906.
IF YOU ARE COMING FROM MA: Take Norfolk Road (Route 272 South) from New Marlborough. Turn right onto Campbell Falls Road at the park sign. Proceed 0.3 miles and turn left into the parking area.
Take the trail to the right of the Campbell Falls sign. You will notice another CT/MA border marker. You're walking into Massachusetts. Continue down to the bottom to the falls. There are great flat rocks here. Great for a picnic lunch! If you turn left at the falls and walk upstream to a three trunked tree next to the water, you will notice a third CT/MA border marker :-)
Once you have explored, or had a nice lunch, walk back up the hill to the second marker you found. Turn left onto the side trail and walk up the hill. On the right, you will notice a diagonal dead tree. The Campbell Falls Letterbox is hidden inside the west side of the tree, behind some bark. Please stamp in and rehide carefully. It is right on the trail, and this park is really busy at times!
P.S. If you do find the box, please let me know if any maintenance to the stamp is required. I want to make sure the superglue is doing its job :-)
