Cacapon Resort State Park
From the south on Interstate 81 (Winchester, Virginia) take U.S. Rt. 522 north 27 miles to the park. From the north on Interstate 81 (Pennsylvania) take Interstate 70 west to Hancock, then U.S. Rt. 522 south 16 miles to the park. From the east on Interstate 70 (Maryland), take U.S. Rt. 522 south at Hancock, etc. From the west on Interstate 68 to Hancock, etc.

NOTE: The log book is full. If you go would you please take an empty book with you for you and others to use? Thank you so much.

Go to the Lodge and pick up a map and trail guide. From the parking lot in front of the Lodge walk thru the stone pillars toward the golf course. Continue down the road a little way until you get to the Piney Ridge Nature Trail. This is the trail you will take to find the letterbox. Walking time is about 30-45 minutes round trip. It is one mile and hilly, but relatively easy walking terrain. It is a loop trail leading through pine and mixed oak forest. We had fun trying to identify the different oak trees. It has 27 stations with a corresponding guidebook that is available for a fee at the front desk of the lodge.

Go thru markers 8 and 9 and continue on until you reach marker 11. There you will see the tree rings. From the tree rings walk 270° for about 85 paces to two trees with one trunk and lots of large exposed roots. It is sitting at the base of the rock ridge. Look behind that tree under a large flat rock.

Please email twograysquirrels2000@yahoo.com if the box is missing, etc.
