Placed by "Simple Pleasures" (dannyone)
Stamp: handcarved (my first)
Time: 20-30min. roundtrip walk
Location: Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary
Visit www.massaudubon.org for rules (like no pets) and a printable trailmap (not necessary for my box).
Directions: From Rte 6, take exit 7 to Yarmouth Port. Go
North one mile on Willow St, take left onto 6A west at the Christmas Tree Shop, go one mile, take a right on Bone Hill Rd. (Black and white sign for HarborPoint is there). Sanctuary parking is 0.2 miles ahead on the left
next to the shed.
Clues: Follow path around edge of pasture. Enter on the left across the planks. At "T" take left and go past old oak trees on right. Bear right (there will be a grove of spruce trees on the left). Take left at red shed. Holly trees will be on the left. Pass 2 cut tree trunks about 4 feet long on the right. Go straight when you come to the split rail fence on the right. Pass a pond on the right and
bear left at the intersection. Bear right and you will start viewing Barnstable Harbor. Sit on the "Respect Nature" bench and you will have a great view of the Sandy Neck Lighthouse. Turn around and take 10 paces to the split trunk tree. There lies a first sign of spring in Barnstable under twigs and leaves.
