Time: I’m saying less than an hour including stamping in time.
This is a 7 box series celebrating my favorite Star Wars characters (no Jar-Jar.) In the first 6 boxes is a small log book and in the last is a bigger one. Please log in to the last box, but just log in to the others if you’d like to. We like the series where we only have to stamp in at the end, but realize that others do not.
This series is located in the West Barnstable Conservation Area.
To get there:
From Route 6, take Exit 5. Head towards Marstons Mills/Centerville (Route 149.) Take the right fork onto 149 (Scarab’s Calvin’s Nemesises Series is straight ahead.) Take a right onto Popple Bottom Road and park in the little lot shortly after you turn. The path is straight ahead at the center of the lot. You will be returning to this main path after each box.
These boxes were all planted in winter and I am not sure if poison ivy is a problem other times of the year.
Yoda
As you walk you will come to two skinny cedars in the path. Shortly after is another tree in the path. At this tree, turn right and walk 10 steps into the woods. There is a fallen tree to your left. Here is Yoda behind the closest bend.
Han and Chewie
Go back to the main path. Watch for a holly tree on the right. Before it is a path. 15 steps down this path takes you to another fallen tree. Han and Chewie are behind the first break in the log closest to you. Watch out for briars.
Millennium Falcon
Back to the main path. Go around curve with one of many fallen trees and you will come to a thick tree about 3 feet in diameter. It has 2 big and one smallish rock in front of it. Then it gets rocky. On the right is a crater and shortly after is a path marked by about 6 boulders at the entrance and a pine that you can’t put your arms around. Follow the path through a three tree doorway and the Millennium Falcon is between a rock and a hard place (also known as a tree.)
Darth Vader
Back to main path again. Go by the mutant knobby triplets on the right and uphill on a curve. You will meet another wider path. Note the TO OA sign (you’ll be back.) Take a right onto the path that becomes gravelly for a short time. On the right is a upside down Y (a lambda?) branch hanging precariously. Look to the left for a big boulder with a barren fallen tree behind it. Sit on this tree and feel around behind the rock for Darth Vader.
R2D2 and C3PO
Back to path that is now more like a road. Take the right path across from the elephantine tree. Go over a submerged rock and snaky roots. When you meet another set of snaky roots go to the left behind the thick tree with the skinny Siamese friend. Standing behind that look to the right for some soft needle pines. Between their bigger brother under some long sticks lies R2D2 and C3PO.
Princess Leia
Back on the path you will pass a long log side rail. Up some roller coaster rock hills and around until you see some remnants of either a fort or an osprey nest on the right. Walk towards it and you will see a spiky tree fallen at about a 30-degree angle on the left. It is past a smaller, mossier version. Princess Leia is waiting where the tree and the ground meet.
Star Wars ****Replaced 4/2/2006****
Turn back down the path in the direction you came. Left at the end on the wider path and left at the TO OA sign. When you see the mutant knobby triplets again, look across the path. To the right of a train track of tree debris is a dragging arm. Look into the triangle that is created by the arm. You will see a many trunked holly. This holly and a rock guard the final box.
