Texas has much to be proud of. The spirit of Texas can be found in the defenders of the Alamo and Sam Houston's Texan Army who won independence for Texas at San Jacinto in 1836. It can be found in the Battleship Texas, the only remaining American ship to serve in both World Wars. The Texas fought off of Omaha Beach on D-Day, it fought off Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. It can be found in the swagger of cowboys, and the sashay of cowgirls. It can be found in small towns like Rio Hondo, and the large metropolises of Houston and Dallas. It can be found in old and young alike. Texas gets in your blood. I am a seventh generation Texan. I am proud to be a Texan.

Directions to the Letterbox:

Texas Proud can be located in the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. From Houston take Loop 610 East to Texas Highway 225 and travel east for 11 miles to Battleground Road (Texas Highway 134). Turn left (north) and go about 2 miles. Turn right (east) on Park Road 1836 and drive to the Monument. Note: San Jacinto Day is April 21st so the weekend surrounding that date is filled with reenactments and celebrations so it may be hard to be discreet on those days.

Clues:

Drive around the Monument to the northeast side (back right side as you approach). Find the interpretive trail and follow it. Do not turn right onto trail but continue to the outdoor classroom ahead. Go to the head of the class and address your students. Look toward the Monument, you can't miss it, it's taller then the Washington Monument. Find the closest tree between you and the Monument. Texas Proud can be found at the base of the tree on the right side in a little alcove behind some branches. Please recover well.

Be sure to check out the Monument and the Battleship Texas located on the grounds of the park, as well as Birdsofafeather's Tickling The Ivories, Silver Eagle's San Jacinto, and Lightnin Bug's TX Corundum Conundrum letterboxes located in the park.
