ALPINE YARD SALE - Box # 1

Make your way to historic Heritage Square in Golden:

I-70 West to the Morrison/Red Rocks Exit #259. Go north from I-70 onto Hwy 40 for approximately 1 mile. Look for the Heritage Square arch on the west side of Hwy 40.

Park and walk through the center of town until you reach the chapel. To the right of the chapel, take the path towards the Alpine Slide. Cross the railroad tracks. Immediately after crossing the tracks, go up hill 20 steps. Now turn to your left heading 120 degrees and go behind the “ghost town” to the far edge of town. Spot the water tank on the other side of the tracks. Spot the oak tree to your right with a culvert down below the tree. At the base of the tree hidden under rocks will be “Alpine Yard Sale”. Be careful, this is a busy area. Look above and below you for people. You can take the box back down to the picnic area by the water tank to stamp in and then return it being careful again not to be spotted!

FROSTY - Box # 2 Owners Note: 10/18/2008 - FROSTY MIA :-(

Return to the spot on the path where you crossed the tracks and headed up the hill 20 steps. Now, look to your right at 310 degrees and you will see just past the flagpole a fence with a trail on the west side of it meeting up with another trail on the mountain side. Follow this trail. At top, look for sign “STOP-WATCH FOR CARS”. Cross the road and go over the bridge to the Apex Trail. Turn left on the trail and read the sign about Road Tolls and the history of the Apex and Gregory Wagon Road towards Central City, then known as the Gregory diggings. You are going up this trail for .18 miles. Head up the trail and stop at the 3rd man-made wood road bump. Walk 15-16 steps further and stop. On your right is a large rock outcropping. At the base are some bushes. Look to the left of the lowest bush located just off the trail. At the base of the rock outcropping, behind the left side of the bush, you will see a small crevice with smaller rocks hiding our Winter Friend.

A big thank you to Dixie Peach and Captain Ron for planting these boxes for me!
