Note

If you have previously found the Boy Scout Area Waterfalls LB, this is the same starting point. I know many people felt that that box had too steep of a climb, don’t worry this series does not send you up that same stair case.

This series does not have any ink in the boxes, especially because you can't put markers in micro boxes. You should probably bring your own markers with you to help with the multi colors the stamps need.

Also this series has a bonus box (I think the clues kind of give of away which one has it), but there are no clues as to how to get to it. The best hint I can give you is that it in my opinion is very well hidden and a micro box. Also it is probably within a 10 foot radius of the box it is off of. Good luck.

Directions:

From Rt 280 (in either direction), take Exit 7. Make a left off of the exit and continue down Pleasant Valley Way. You will cross over Mt Pleasant Ave (rt 10) and then cross over North Field Ave. Once you cross over North Field, you are in the south mountain reservation. The entrance to the area you are looking is a left turn at the a sign stating “Boy Scout Area.” From there you will enter and turn right and continue down to the first parking lot on your right. Facing the Lenape Trail sign, the start of the trail is on your left, the “yellow” trail.

Clues:

As you begin on the yellow trail there will be pine needles everywhere, as you begin to walk up hill. After a short ways the trail will flatten out for a very short period of time before starting to make a slow decline. Just before this slows decline you will see one of many fallen logs around you directly on your right. Under this log you will be the “Football Letterbox.”

Once you rehide this box you can continue on your way, still following the yellow trail markers. You will soon cross over the road below on a nice old bridge. As you continue on the yellow trail, not long after the bridge, you will see a two sister tree on your right side with two fallen logs behind it. Underneath the log pointing directly at the two sister tree you will find the “Baseball Letterbox”

Continue back along this path, and you will soon come to a backwards Y, stay right. You will soon see in front of you a sign which states “Rahway Trail”, with a white trail marker on it. Not long after that sign becomes visible (well before you reach the trail sign), there will be a large two sister tree on your left, with large roots hanging out. Directly behind this tree is a smaller four sister tree, here you will find the “Hockey Letterbox.” Strange how this box is just the stick and not the puck, which would make sense with the other boxes; I wonder where that puck could have gone?

After stamping in, you can either go down the other side of that small hill and turn left on the path, or return to down the way you came up, and turn left at the “Rahway Trail” sign, staying on the yellow path. As you continue down you will pass a small bridge and the first of two waterfalls. Just before getting to this first waterfall you will need to turn right in order to stay on the yellow trail. You will shortly come to the second, and larger of the two waterfalls. Feel free to enjoy the view, and look at the large stair case that you do not need to climb. If you do want to however you can climb the stairs and check out the waterfall from the top, and there is no need to do so to find any of the boxes.

After you are done admiring the waterfall, you must return back the way you came, along the yellow trail. Pass by the second small waterfall again, and the bridge. After the bridge you will see on the left side of the trail and large tree with cravings on it, and a nice sized rock in front of it. Directly across the trail from this is a tree with a large hole in the bottom of it. In here you will find the “Basketball Letterbox.”

From here you can follow the yellow trail all the way back to your car. If you have any questions feel free to either e-mail me, or IM me via AIM: Hillel LBing
