Incorrectly listed as Fayette county, the county line is about 1/4 mile west.

This box is part of my “Re-living the past” series. This is for the Summer of ‘88 when I was very active in the hunting areas of Deer Creek State Park at points farthest from the normal tourist areas and away from other groundhog hunters.

During the early part of 1988, I spent many hours in the fields and on the many farm roads in the area encompassed by Deer Creek State Park. The areas described below has changed quite a bit over the years since this time. The duck ponds began life when some Beavers built some dams on the ditches that drains this section. The water was soon flowing over Dick road into the farm fields nearby, Ducks Unlimited funds were used to make this little-visited area what it is today.

There were several large trees in the area that are now long gone, the road way has been rebuilt several feet higher and the old farm lanes have become over grown as mentioned in my description for the nearby box ‘Beaver, Darn.’ In this place is one of the weird dug out overgrown areas that turn up through out the park where perhaps a large house or barn once stood.

I planted this box on a rainy late March day, the quacking ducks and fog rising from the ponds gave a real peaceful, eerie feeling to the day.

On Route 207, find Egypt Pike, the road that is opposite the road to the dam area. Head approximately 1.5 miles to Dick road (You should be seeing New Holland water tower in the distance), turn left on Dick road and travel for a couple more tenths past the Duck/beaver marshes. You should see a large Duck blind platform on the top of a small rise on your right. Park at the gravel lot unless you are handicapped, if so, you can simply drive within 4 paces of the box, have your helper deal with the thorn bush.

With right heel touching the red “No vehicles beyond this point sign”, count off 90 paces. This will bring you to a triangle of high weeds in the center of the vehicle turn circle. From the center of the road, follow right 30 paces to the northeast corner of the deck of the duck blind. If you brought your scopes and glasses, you should be able to observe dozens of different types of geese and ducks in the pond below.

After you’ve had your fill of the ducks, time to find mine. Continue on around the gravel road about 26 paces until you have the center section of the duck blind on your left shoulder and a small Honey Locust on your right shoulder and your car in front of your nose in the distance. You will find Duck ‘Blind’ four paces from the center of the gravel road behind the Honey Locust tree*** about three feet from the park boundary under a burnt board and mossy branches. Beware of Thorns in tree.

***This box has been moved an additonal two feet to the fence line on April 16 and is now behind some larger rocks as well as the cover used above. The locust tree was sheared off by a tractor-mounted Brush Hog. ***

Re-place as found or better and let me know how it's doing. rmorgan762@aol.com.
