**** 3/5/2007 Unfortunately the Cats have not done well over the winter. Bailey is missing by the river and someone replaced the twins with beer cans. To say I'm disapointed is an understatement. I will replace them when it gets warmer, Hopefully I can find better hiding spots because this nature sanctuary is such a great spot. We will be back on track hopefully in april.

*******9/17/2006 I have taken all the books from the boxes. Some boxes were wet. All the stamps are in place and there is paper in the last box. I will be replacing the boxes with better ones and the book wil be in the last one. Thanks to all who have visited my Cool Cats.*****

****No ink pads in these boxes****
These boxes are placed by PTBeachbum, HPFanatic and Bren. They are to honor all the cool cats in our family. These boxes are hidden in the Gertrude M Boyden Wildlife Nature Refuge AKA Boyden Bird Sanctuary in Taunton MA. This wildlife area is kid and pet friendly, but not stroller friendly. The whole walk is about 1 mile thru scenic woods and river areas along the Three Mile River. It is open 9am to sunset.

Take Rt 44 thru Taunton toward Providence. At 3rd set off lights, take left(CVS&Shaw's). Take next right and Sanctuary is on left about 1/4 mile. Drive in and park.

1. Peanut is our first cool cat. She was a tri-color calico. She lived from 1975 to 1989. She was so small when we got her, hence the name Peanut. To find Peanut follow the Pine trail thru the opening in the fence and cont down the trail. Follow this trail, you will walk by a 3 trunk tree and the trail curves to the right. A short distance ahead take left and follow trail( marker on tree is faded arrow). When trail goes slightly up hill turn left and walk toward large fallen tree with star shaped roots. Peanut is hidden about 3/4 of the way up on left under branches and pine needles
continue on the trail to the main trail and take Left and continue to the Fragrance Garden.

2. Frisky came to us from the Animal Rescue League. She is a gray,longhair/maine coon. She is very gentle and loving, but she has been known to chase dogs out of our yard. She has been patrolling our yard since 1989 and she is definately the Queen of the neighborhood. To find our Frisky continue pass the Fragrance Garden to the 5 x-mas trees. Look behind the small tree on the right and you will find our Queen.

3. Our next cool cat was Bailey. He was a feral cat. Black and long-haired. We found him under a bush in our yard and he was so small that we had to feed him with a dropper. Bailey liked everyone except Frisky and they spent 3 year fighting in our kitchen before he was hit by a car and died 2 weeks later from complications. Our home is a lot quieter and Frisky is back being Queen.
To find Bailey continue to follow trail to the River Trail. When you reach the Dead End Sign follow trail down to the water. This is the Three Mile River. Watch for turtles, swans & ducks. This is also a fishing spot. On Right look at the retaining wall. At the end near the tree trunk, you will find Bailey on left of 2nd from bottom cross-tie behind some leaves and pine needles.

4. Now we come to Brendon's cool cats. And the coolest of them all is Al. Al was rescued also from the Animal Rescue League. He is a black domestic short hair. Al pick Brendon that day when he purred the loudest and hit him on the head with his paw thru the cage. It was love at first paw. Al spends the day taking care of Brendon, his mom and a neighbor. To find Al continue down the river trail. Trail has a lot of roots and rustic steps. At the top of the hill take a right to the cabin. This cabin is a replica of the Arthur Cleveland Bent(1866 -1964) He was an american ornthologist and writer. Al will be found behind the cabin in an old rotten tree covered by bark.

5. Continue down stairs back to trail and continue to follow the water. When the trail splits take the left trail to Boardwalk and Covered Bridge. There is a bench to rest or check out the board walk and observation platform.
Our last two cool cats are the twins. Midnight and Shadow are black and long-haired. Both were dropped off one night in Brendon's neighborhood one found her way to his recycle bin and the other to a neighbors back door. Both were too cute to be left out and Brendon's mom took them in and now they spend their days tormenting Al and loving Brendon.
To find the twins, follow trail to the covered bridge. Step on the bench in the west corner and look up in the rafter ( 2nd plank from end. and you will find Midnight and Shadow.

Continue on the trail, walk thru a field back to the driveway and to the parking lot. We hope you have enjoyed this great wildlife refuge and all our cool cats. We would love to hear from you. Happy Hiking and Boxing, Donna, Maryann and Brendon.
