Originally planted by BorisDM and adopted in September 2010 by thethreecs.

This series of letterboxes was inspired, first by one of our son's favorite songs. If you're not familiar with all the verses of the song, you can find the lyrics at http://kididdles.com/mouseum/i036.html. The lyrics may help you make sense of the names of the boxes in the series.

Our other inspiration for this series comes from the Snow White LB(http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=7788&boxname=Snow_White) in Pomfret, CT. If you haven't searched for that letterbox, I would suggest giving it a try.

You can find this series in Massasoit State Park in East Taunton. To get there, take Rt 495 to exit 5 in Middleboro. Take Rt 18. south to the first intersection, Taunton Street. There's a flashing yellow light. turn right there. Continue about 2.5 miles and you'll find the entrance to the park on the left. The name of the road changes to Middleboro Ave when it crosses into Taunton.

There are 6 letterboxes in this series. Originally we only posted clues to the first box, and each of the others provided clues to the next in the series. After several people reporting problems locating the 3rd box, we posted clues to the 4th box so people could skip #3 if necessary. Now box #1 has been reports and confirmed missing so that meant that #'s 2 and 3 were inaccessible.

Another problem that we found was that when we placed them, you could drive all the way down to Fisherman's Landing. Now, unless you have a fishing license or are camping in the park, you have to park at the main entrance and walk down. This adds an additional 3 miles to the hike (1.5 down and back).

Given all that, we decided to post the clues to all the boxes here. You can start at #1 if you're up to the challenge, or you can start at #5 , then go to #6, and then continue on down to Fisherman's Landing.

You may want to get a trail map. You can find one on the web site, or at the contact station at the entrance to the park during the camping season (late May till Columbus Day). All of the boxes in this series are very close to the trail so if you find yourself bushwacking, beyond a few steps, you're in the wrong place.

Box #1 - The Water Spout:

From Fisherman's Landing, head west on the paved road, past the gate. The road will turn to dirt shortly. Continue along the trail, keeping Middle Pond to your right. Just past the 4-way intersection (on the trail map) look for a large, flat rock on the hillside to your right. The first letterbox in the series is located at the top of that rock.

Box #2 - The Fan:
Continue on trail, you will see another trail to your left. Opposite that, look for a huge pine on right. Box is in the trunk of a multi-trunk maple.

Box #3 - The Mouse: (very hard to find)
Continue on path, you will come to a fork, go uphill to the right. Watch on the left for a 2 sister pine growing very close to the main trail. This pine is unique in that about 20' up, the 2'd sister is broken off, but there is a "hook-shaped" limb growing at about the same height. Just past that, look for a very rotted, 5-6 foot high stump. If you can see the water through the trees, the stump you seek is near. Also, there's a path on the left, 14 steps further up the main trail. Look under a fallen tree, behind a 2 sister maple (with one dead sister lying on the ground).

Box #4 - The Rocking Chair
Look on a trail map for the trail running between Kings and Middle Ponds. Go to the gate at the west end of that trail (also shown on the trail map). With your back to the gate post with the number 8 on it, take a reading of 100 degrees. Go 7 steps down the slope. Look for the LB behind the rock.

Box #5 - The Maple Tree

Follow the trail toward the camping area/beach. When you get to the paved road, turn left. Turn left again on a tral between camp sires G20 and G21. Continue to the sand flats and bear right. Re-enter the woods to the northeast. The main trail will bear right, but you should continue straight on to a smaller path. Go to the bench and search the north end of the rock wall behind the bench.

To get to #5 directly from the parking lot at the park entrance, take the path on the right near the main gate and a set of benches. Continue on path heading south until you come to a “T” (there will be a small sign post in front of you). Turn left. Bear right over small foot bridge and walk over wood plank. There will be a bench on your left and Lake Rico on your right. Behind, and below the bench you'll find a low rock wall. Facing the bench, look at the right end of the wall for the letter box.

Box #6 - Itsy-Bitsy Spider

Continue down the trail. At the paved road, turn right. Enter the woods on the blue blazed trail, on the left side of the road, just passed the fire hydrant. Turn right at the first intersection and cross the foot bridge. After the camper's dump station watch for a knobby, 20' tall stump on the left. To the east of that stump look beneath a split, fallen log.

Good luck, and have fun.

Please note, as we are moving out of the state, we are no longer maintaining this series. Please send requests to thethreecs.
