This box was placed on April 1, 2006 but this is NOT an April Fool's joke. It is a very easy box to find, great for kids. It is only about a 5 minute walk from the parking lot but detours can be made or you can start at a different lot and walk from the other direction.

Carderock Park is operated by the National Park Service and is a lovely stretch of woods and trails along the Maryland side of the Potomac River. Walking trails include the C & O canal and a portion of the Billy Goat Trail. There are fields to play ball in, a pavilion, picnic tables, and, at the western end, great rock climbing.

From the 495 Beltway, take the Clara Barton Parkway/Carderock exit and take the exit west on the Clara Barton Parkway towards Potomac, MD. Go .9 miles to the exit for Carderock Park. After you go under the small tunnel for the C & O canal, take a right and drive to last parking lot at the end of the road.

From the bathrooms take the billy goat trail. There are several other trails here but the Billy Goat trail is the one with blue blazes. You will see some other trails merge into the billy goat trail. Right after the merger you will see a fallen tree over the trail resting on a huge rock. Walk under the tree (it is about 8-10 feet over the trail) about 50 feet. On the right is a tree with a big hole in it. The letterbox is in the hole.

You can continue on this trail to find the other letter box hidden by Wolfpack which is only about 10 minutes further along the trail.
