12/2007: THERE HAS BEEN ONE REPORT THAT THIS IS MISSING, AND IT MAY BE A LONG TIME BEFORE I GET BACK THERE TO CONFIRM WHETHER IT'S REALLY GONE.

Conventional wisdom may say that 25 years is the silver wedding anniversary, but for friends of mine, it was the Sapphire anniversary. To commemorate their 25th anniversary, the lovebirds decided to celebrate their love and their life together by renewing their vows. To do this, they ventured to their second home – Sapphire Beach, near the city of Red Hook on the island of Saint Thomas. Many friends and family joined them to celebrate this auspicious occasion. We made this trip because of our loyalty and devotion to the lovebirds, not because St. Thomas is the closest place to heaven that most of us have experienced….but I digress.

The vow renewal ceremony took place on a beautiful point at the Sapphire Beach Resort. To find this beautiful vista, start at the pool that is near the bay. Stop in for a pina colada at the pool bar if you wish, but watch for iguanas. They’re harmless as long as you don’t threaten them, but they love hanging out around the café. Once you’re ready to continue, enjoy a stroll toward the point. As you progress down the grassy strip with rocks and ocean on either side, imagine what a nice processional that made for the vow renewal, as well as many weddings that are held here. When you reach the end of the point, you will see some shrubbery. On the left side of this shrubbery, the box is tucked away behind some stones on a wall near the base of a small tree.

The design in this box signifies a wooden sign that has hung outside the lovebirds’ home for all of their married life. Please email kanderson2000@aol.com with any updates or questions about this box.
