To the Letterbox:
Welcome to Slater park, a great place to be
There are lots of ways to kill time as you will soon see.

Baseball Box 1 (Missing 6/12/09)
Head to the south side of the parking lot to begin your fun.
Head west around the fields to find box number 1.
As you walk cheer for teams both young and old.
You'll pass two home plates, two scoreboards and a flag pole.
Before the fences turn green into the woods you will go.
At the far foul pole of the 4th field a heading of 128 you should follow.
Follow the path past a graffiti tree to a four way intersection.
Then take six paces in a northern direction.
You will find your self at a pair of trees.
Look behind them to find the box if you please.

Basketball Box 2 (Missing, Being Repaired)
Now back on your quest to box number two.
Head back to the intersection and leave the ball parks behind you
As you travel down the path you will pass home made jumps where dirt bikes fly.
You will sadly see more graffiti trees as you pass by.
Keep on trucking with the power lines on your right
Trash in the woods has become a sore sight
You'll see lots of debris, we're sorry to say
Then around a fallen pine and you're on your way.
Walk past some charred forest and large stones on either side of the lane
Then behind the “Greenhouse” and a tank of propane.
Now head north across the street to where this next game is played
Here players celebrate each shot that is made.
Wave to the ballers, leave the abandoned restrooms to your right
Follow the cement path 131 degrees, the box will soon be in sight!
Into the woods, then 11 paces 210 degrees on the gravel track
From there turn around with courts at your back
Four paces to a strange cement blob, Then spy “Mt. Trashmore”
Between you and the “Mt” see a tree with a perfect spot for our box to be stored.

Bicycling Box 3 (Missing 6/12/09)
Two boxes found and plenty more to still come
Head back to the gravel to continue the fun.
Away from “Mt. Trashmore” you should trot
To a fork in the path and to the parking lot.
In the lot find the “Parking Space” of box #3
Then spot a sign “Straight Ahead” that shows the direction your next steps should be.
Walk under the neatly arranged pines to where the round bends around
Cross where the stones are laid into the ground.
Then take 32 paces at 129 to read about the 10 Mile Greenway
In the direction of Dagget House you should stay.
You can let your mind relax and just follow the Yellow Lines
“Walk on the left facing bicycles” until you reach a squiggly yellow sign.
Here follow the fence, not the path, to where wood meets stone.
Head over a small “bridge”, you are near the box's home.
From the “bridge” take 12 paces North to a four trunked tree
Tucked in the middle you will find box #3.

Lawn Bowling Box 4 (Missing 6/12/09)
Replaced on 6/15/06
Replaced on 7/27/07- Now a micro, no ink or logbook.
Three boxes found and seven more to go.
This next one is a sport that not many folks know.
Head back towards the bike path, but stop at the lonley pine.
Here to take the dirt path north over the bridge will be just fine.
After the bridge look both ways, don't get hit by a bike
Rather cross the path to continue your hike.
Continue to walk up the path where the lawn bowling balls roll
At the light tower you can stop your stroll.
Head around the courts and watch the games as you go
At the corner of the fence the box's location you will soon know.
Take 8 paces at 228 to a large tree
There beneath some stones box #4 you will see.

Tennis Box 5 (Missing 6/12/09)
The next box is not too far and then you'll be ½ way done.
Head North to the the parking lot to continue the fun.
Cross the lot and then head up the hill
Walk between the park office and the stage for more “Time to Kill”
Cross the road and head to where the future Andre Agassis play
You can sit for a break as around the courts you make your way
Where the courts are back to back, North into the woods you should head.
24 paces to something yellow that is normally on the street and red.
Next to this item you will see a fallen branch
That the box is underneath there is a 100% chance.

Painting Box 6
Replaced on 9/5/06
You've found ½ the boxes but there is still more to see.
Back at the courts is where you should be.
Continue your walk around the tennis courts
to your first box in the series that is not a sport.
You'll see another spot we could placed box #1.
Then head south along the row of trees and benches to keep up the fun.
At the end of the fence head towards the brick building at 176 degrees.
This is the RI Water Color Society, head in to look at their paintings if you please.
Now line yourself up directly with the Water Color Society door.
Then walk West on the path for 21 squares, no less no more.
You'll find yourself at a fork, what should you do?
The "high road" is the best one for you.
Take this "high road" for another 81 squares
Enjoy your walk and the view with no worries or cares.
After you cross a ribbon of asphalt, walk four more squares and turn to the trees.
Now walk eight paces at 330 degrees.
You will find yourself at a tree with a cement "root".
At the "roots" edge under a rock you will find your loot.

Carousel Box #7 (Hand Drawn by RBTree)
The next box is not too far away, that much is true.
It celebrates every kid in the park's favorite thing to do.
From the painting box head east on the path and then past the pond side of the gallery
When you get to the road crossing safely is key.
Cross the street to the Looff Carousel, an older one on the world can't be found.
You can picture kids of the past spinning round and round.
As you listen to the sounds of yesteryear head counter-clockwise around the carousel
You'll come to a “Telegraph” pole after a small spell.
From here take 6 paces to the old drainage bed
12 paces to the south is where you should head.
A tree that is missing a large part of its trunk you will see
There underneath some rocks and bark the carousel box will be

Feeding the Ducks Box #8 (Missing 6/12/09)
It is time to move now that you've found box #7.
For all the ducks and geese around Slater Park is like heaven.
Head back to the carousel, stop for a ride if you wish
Then cross the street to the pond where some fish.
Head around the water passing mini Waterfire braziers and some benches.
Keep heading around the pond to where the stone fence is.
You'll see signs that most people seem to ignore
They didn't say anything about feeding ducks which is what our box if for.
Keep on trekking Northwest around the pond to the highest point on the hill
From here you can spot the many places you've been if you take a moment to be still.
Head down the hill towards the scenic gazebo
You'll pass “Duck island where the birds love to go.
You should stay on the path as you go on your way.
Up and over the stone bridge and you'll be OK
At the triangle head 288 degrees toward the road.
Across the street to the “Friendship Garden” whose ponds are full of toads
Down the stairs and to a circle of stone
11 paces West around the garden's moat is where the box sits alone.
You'll find it tucked behind a cluster of birch trees
It's a high traffic area so be careful if you please.

Playground Box #9
It's hard to believe we are already at box #9.
Just follow our clues and you'll find it in no time.
After you replace the box back to the garden you should go
The path through the garden is the one you must follow
As you stroll through the garden over 3 bridges will you walk
One of stone and two of wood in this lovely place for friends to talk.
At the end of “Friendship Garden” head 156 degrees up the stairs
Cross the road as you head to where kids play without cares.
Cross the road carefully walking straight between the dog pound and snack bar.
You can stop for a hot dog or ice cream, although the box is not far.
Head South towards the “Chutes and ladders” where kids play all day.
From the entrance gate of “Adventure Playground” head east to be on you way.
Walk past the “Rock Wall” and the instructions for kids.
Turn into the woods at the first path to find where this box has been hid.
Just West of the path 11 paces away
Under fallen limbs this box will stay.

Letterboxing Box #10
The last box will celebrate the best hobby of all
Letterboxing is how we spend our spring, summer and fall.
Continue on the path towards Daggett Farm Petting Zoo.
To head away from the mulch to the parking lot is the thing to do.
Head back towards the “Friendship Garden”, wave to the shelter dogs as you go by.
Cross the street and back down the stairs your feet will fly
Pass “Friendship Garden”and up the gravel path you should travel.
Follow to the first bench which overlooks the “Garden”, now our compass clues you must unravel
As this box celebrates letterboxing we thought tricky was best.
See if you can find this box as easy as the rest.
20 paces 291 Degrees to small pine
22 paces 269 Degrees to a “Christmas Tree”
32 paces 334 Degrees to two stumps
14 paces 347 Degrees to a “V” Tree
14 paces 320 Degrees to path
36 paces 230 Degrees to yellow arrow 1
16 paces 279 Degrees to yellow arrow 2
9 paces 345 Degrees to mini pine, where box lays.

We hope you have enjoyed Killing some Time in Slater Park!
Head back to the path and go West to the road.
Cross the street and then through the parking lot and fields yo your car.
