This Letterbox is another that has ties to the old Pennsylvania Main Line Canal. The Kiski division of the West Penn Trail runs along the Kiskimenetas River which is formed by the confluence of the Conemaugh and Loyalhanna at Saltsburg. Some recostruction of the Canal has been done in the town that once served as a canal basin ( where many boats were stored). There are several intact stone drainage culverts along this section which was constructed in the 1830s.

This is a very simple box to find and a very easy walk. Start at the Canal Walk and follow the river's flow (downstream towards Avonmore), or you can park on Route 286 across from the fire department. As you proceed westward you will see three high piers from the old covered bridge that burned. A little farther along there is an island in the river. You will then see piers from an earlier bridge. About 30 yards off the trail there are two high columns and one that has broken. Approach the the broken column from the trail side and as you start to climb there are a pile of stones. Lift the stones and you will find your quest. This is a busy trail so please hide it well when you are finished.

Happy Letterboxing.
