This box has been retired. Look for a new Easter adventure soon!!!!!

This is the first in what we hope will be a series of holiday themed boxes. We're only planning on leaving this one out for about 6 months to a year, so don't dawdle.

I read today that the state of Maine is considering putting the cottontail rabbit on their state's endangered species list. We are happy to report that this is not the case in Missouri as my wife and I saw one of the little critters just yesterday. He looked a little harried and he had the tell tale signs of dye on the paws and chocolate on his whiskers. He'd obviously been celebrating and we followed to make sure he got home all right.

He scampered into the Maple Woods Nature Preserve (located at NE 76th St. and N. Prospect in Gladstone) and we quickly parked in the lot and ran across the bridge into the park. He went straight up the path all the way to the top of the hill (he seemed exhausted and to tell you the truth I was breathing a little heavy myself). He did not pause however, and followed the path as it took a sharp left. He continued to hippity-hop along and when he came to a fork in the path he took a right, then another fork, another right. This was getting a little predictable as we passed by a barbed wire fence on the right and a .3 mile marker on the left. But just when we thought we had this rabbit pegged, the little guy takes a left at the next T. He continued on this little meandering path for about 80 paces (that's about 250 bunny hops), and right before the path started to go down steeply, he leaped off the path at about a 45 degree angle to the right and about 20 feet into the woods he zipped into a hollow log. We tip toed up to his home and it looked pretty snug and dry. We didn't want to disturb him after his hard day, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind a vistor now and then, Easter isn't for a whole 'nother year.
