"He was once a little green slab of clay. Gumby!
You should see what Gumby can do today. Gumby!
He can walk into any book, with his pony pal Pokey, too.
If you've got a heart then Gumby's a part of you."

Recently Gumby celebrated his 50th birthday! In honor of this milestone for this green guy and his pal Pokey, we placed two letterboxes.

Driving Directions: Take 395 to exit 79A. Follow Rte 2A to the stop light. Turn right onto Rte 12. Drive about 2 miles to another stop light. Turn left onto Rte 214. Turn right on Avery Hill Rd. Ext. At the stop sign, turn right and almost immediately on your left you will see the sign and small parking area for the Pine Swamp/Slosberg-Andersen Woodlands.

To the boxes: Hike down the wide path. Turn left at the signpost directing you to the loop and ponds. Follow the trail past ponds on both sides. Eventually you will come to another sign post. You have 3 options-left, straight or right. Take the trail to the right, following the edge of the pond until you reach a rope swing. Take the trail left until you seem to be at the end. Look left for a 5 or 6 trunked tree. While leaning your right shoulder on this tree, take a reading of 70 degrees. Sight another multi-trunk tree growing out of the banks. Under the tree you will find Gumby.

* Did you know that Gumby's creator Art Clokey went to a seminary in CT to become a minister?

Now, head back to the last intersection with the "loop" sign. This time you will want to take the path on the left. You will walk along with a pond on your left side. The trail gets tight as it winds through Mountain Laurel. Continue on passing the "boulder moraine" sign and traveling downhill through more laurel. Just before reaching pole 22 and the marshy grass stop at a 5 ft tall boulder on the left. Look right for a 6 ft wide flat boulder. Here you will find Pokey.
